 :: SA 8000 - SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY ::

What is SA8000?

  • Social Accountability (SA )8000 is a standard which ensures dignity at work place for the workers .
  • SA8000 has been developed based on the conventions of the International Labour Organization, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child.
  • It is applicable to all companies regardless of scale, industry and location.
  • Its objective is to ensure ethical sourcing and production of goods and services.

Why SA8000?

  • Buyers insist on it.
  • Awareness to ILO requirements is increasing in developing countries.
  • WTO impact on current business practices.
  • Provides a safe & healthy work environment to all.
  • To show that we care for our employees.

Benefits of SA 8000 certification

As a Customer...

  • Deal with suppliers who are independently certified against SA8000, you and your customers can have confidence that the products they buy have been produced under conditions which are fair and safe and will remain so.
  • SA 8000 is not a one-off “try and fail” initiative, but provides a framework for continuous control and improvement.

As a Supplier...

  • SA 8000 will give you an edge over your competitors and a powerful proposition to attract potential customers. All other things being equal, why would customers consider an organization with uncertain record on workplace practices and human rights, requiring costly monitoring, when they can buy from a supplier that is a recognized leader in the field? Some customers are already insisting that their suppliers comply with SA8000 – so why not be ahead of your competition?

What is certification?

  • Certification is an independent third party confirmation that your organization fulfills the requirements of the standard.
  • The certificate is valid for a 3-year period and includes yearly surveillance audits.

The Cost could be broken into three categories

  • Cost of certification
  • Cost of consulting &
  • Cost involved in up-gradation of systems.
